From Cruise to Countryside

We caught up with our lovely bride Chloe for a Q&A on how she dealt with the cancellation and rearrangement of her wedding during these trying times.

Chloe shared her experience and provided us and all brides to be with helpful guidance on how you can still have the wedding of your dreams when things have not gone to plan.

This is worth a read for any bride out there who may not be able to wait any longer to celebrate her special day.

Q. How did your plans change due to the pandemic?

“Originally we were marrying on a cruise ship which was going to Malta, Croatia, Italy and Greece. This was canceled a week before we were due to go. So when we were looking at re-booking we had to decide whether to wait to see if we could go on another cruise or if we were to try something different. When it became apparent that the lockdown would last a lot longer than a few weeks we decided not to book another cruise but wait and re-evaluate.
We ended up finding a gorgeous venue called the Mounton Brook Lodge, which has a gorgeously decorated ceremony barn. We decided we did not want to wait any longer and Booked in for the ceremony. We had also booked a reception, however this had to be canceled due to local lockdown restrictions therefore we decided to go for the ceremony only.
Lucky for us whilst having photos a pub with a marquee was open and allowed us and our guests to sit/eat and drink (socially distanced) but it was wonderful!”

Q.  How many guests did you need to turn away?

“We only had a small wedding of 15 who booked on to the cruise. So we actually had more guests at our covid wedding! We had 30 in total didn't have to turn anyone away, we had a bit of a job choosing more guests!”

Q. Did you have any family drama because of it? (a cheeky question!)

“Haha we had a bit of a nightmare with people saying they may/may not attend. Without a firm yes or no, it was hard to plan because of the restrictions in place. Then there were a few who were a little put out by not being invited. But nothing too dramatic.”

Q. Are you glad you went ahead rather than postponed and waited?

“We are soo happy we went ahead as it was. We had the most chilled out day not having to worry about all of the usual wedding formalities like catering, entertainment, and toasts etc. It was impromptu, informal and everyone had a great time.

Q. Do you have any advice for future brides? Should they postpone or go for it, based on your experience?

My advice would be that if you're a bride that wants the "Big white wedding" that you see on Instagram and in Magazine's, a covid wedding probably isn’t right for you.

To marry at these times you need to be prepared to not have everything that is part of a "normal wedding". You need to be able to adapt and embrace changes to your plans. We had about 6 different scenarios mapped out and just had to go with the flow knowing that one of them would happen. We just wanted to be married so didn't care how the day panned out as long as we married!
It couldn't have been more perfect in the end!”
